At some point in life, many people start asking deeper questions.
Did my life matter? Did I make a difference? Did I really do enough for God?
In this episode of FaithFuel with Bob Shaw, Bob talks about legacy, faithfulness, and why God often measures impact very differently than the world does.
Using Galatians 6:9 and Matthew 25:21, this devotional encourages listeners not to measure significance by fame, recognition, or visibility, but by everyday faithfulness over time.
Because some of the greatest impact in life happens quietly through simple acts of obedience, encouragement, kindness, prayer, and pointing people toward Christ.
I always appreciate hearing from you—feel free to reach out.

There comes a time in your life when you start asking deeper questions. Did my life really matter? Did I make a difference? Did I do enough for God? I'm Bob Shaw, and this is Faith Fuel. Most people probably think about legacy differently when they're younger than when they're older. When you're young, it's easy to think impact means becoming successful, influential, well known, or accomplishing something big, writing books, building ministries, reaching thousands of people. But eventually, you start realizing something. A lot of the people who impacted your life the most probably were not famous at all. They were faithful. Maybe it was a parent, a pastor, a friend, a teacher, somebody who encouraged you, prayed for you, showed kindness, or pointed you toward Christ consistently over time. But maybe part of the problem is that people often measure significance by visibility. God doesn't. And I've wrestled with this personally too. There have been times I've wondered whether I've really done enough to further God's kingdom. But the older I get, the more I realize God often works through ordinary faithfulness far more than we recognize. Galatians 6 verse 9. So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. The Bible rarely measures impact the way the world does. Think about people like Ruth staying faithful to Naomi, Barnabas, encouraging believers, Timothy learning from Paul, Lydia opening her home, Joseph raising Jesus faithfully without ever becoming the center of attention. None of those people were chasing fame, but their faithfulness still impacted generations. Sometimes the greatest impact comes through ordinary faithfulness over a long period of time, a parent raising children to love Christ, a friend encouraging somebody through a hard season, a person consistently showing kindness and integrity over years of everyday life. God sees that kind of faithfulness differently than the world does. Matthew 25 21 says, Well done, my good and famous servant. Nope, it didn't say that. Well done, my good and successful servant? Uh uh. He said, Well done, my good and faithful servant. I think a lot of us need that reminder. You may never fully know this side of heaven how God used your life to encourage somebody or strengthen somebody or point somebody toward Christ, but faithfulness is never wasted. Lord, thank you for reminding us that faithfulness matters more than recognition. Help us stop measuring our worth by visibility, success, or comparison. Teach us to serve you faithfully in everyday life, even when nobody notices. And help us trust that you can use simple acts of love, encouragement, kindness, and obedience in ways we may never fully see. In Jesus' name. Amen. If you've ever wondered whether your life has really made a difference, don't underestimate what God can do through ordinary faithfulness over time. And if you want more encouragement like this, spend some time exploring the Faith Fuel Library. There are episodes covering everything from forgiveness, relationships, and suffering to difficult Bible questions in everyday Christian living. I'm Bob Shaw. Peace and joy.
