What happens to the pets we love when they're gone? I'm Bob Shaw, and this is Faith Fuel. Alright, so this one is personal for me. The day after Thanksgiving last year, we lost our little pug, Kahuna, full of energy, always ready for his walk, always right there when I walk through the door. And then one day out of the blue, he got really sick from something he couldn't recover from. I loved that dog. And even now there are times I come home and I still expect to hear his collar jingling as he runs up to greet me. It was a tough one. And if you've ever had a pet like that, you know they're not just animals. They're part of your life, part of your routine, part of your family, and when they're gone, it leaves an empty space. And naturally it leads you to wonder what happens to them. Do pets go to heaven? You've probably heard of something called the Rainbow Bridge. It's a comforting picture, pets running free, waiting for the day they're reunited with their owners. And if you've lost a pet, you probably want that to be true. I know I do. The honest answer is Scripture doesn't give a detailed, specific answer about our individual pets, but it does give us something solid to hold on to. Romans 8 21 says, The creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay. That's not just talking about people. That's talking about creation, everything God made that has been affected by sin and brokenness. And it points to something coming, a restoration, a setting right of what's been affected by this world. Isaiah 11 6 gives us a glimpse of that. The wolf and the lamb will live together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. It's a picture, a piece of animals being part of what God restores. Now, does the Bible spell out exactly what that looks like for our pets? No. But it does show us something about God. He created animals. He called his creation good, and he allowed them to bring joy, companionship, and love into our lives. That tells you something about his heart. So when we don't have every detail, we come back to this. God is good. God is thoughtful. God is not careless with what he creates, and he's not careless with what matters to you. So while we may not have a clear answer, we can trust the one who does. God, thank you for the joy and companionship you've given us through the animals in our lives. Thank you for the memories, the laughter, and the love that they bring. And in times of loss, help us trust you even when we don't have every answer. Remind us of your goodness, your care, and your heart for all that you've created. In Jesus' name. Amen. If someone you know has felt that kind of loss, this might mean something to them. Feel free to pass it along. And follow the Faith Fueled with Bob Shaw podcast wherever you listen for encouragement rooted in God's word that speaks into real life. Until next time, peace and joy.
